The following general instructions pertain to caring for smooth leather shoes. Do not use these instructions to clean suede, nubuck and patent shoes!
To really protect your smooth leather shoes and keep them looking their best, there are 4 steps to follow.
Remove dirt by cleaning with leather cleaner made specifically for smooth leathers. You can also use saddle soap. After cleaning, let the shoes dry for a few minutes and apply conditioner.
Conditioning your leather shoes will help soften and moisturize leather. It will protect leather from drying out and cracking whilst replacing the leather's natural oils. Rub small amounts of shoe cream with clean cloth onto the shoe surface, until the entire shoe has been covered with conditioner. Leave it to soak from at least 20min to 24h and wipe any remaining conditioner off of the shoes, as the leather will only absorb what it needs.
Rub the polish or wax evenly into the shoe with a soft cloth, and allow it to dry thoroughly. After the shoe polish is dry, shine your shoes by buffing them with a soft cloth or a horsehair brush to bring out a high luster.
Weatherproofing your leather shoes will help to protect them from water and other elements that can ruin the finish and shorten the life of your shoes. Always follow the instructions on the protector spray. Make sure you cover heels and the sides of sole. Spray your shoes before wearing, and on a regular basis thereafter. In wet weather condition you should use the water protector on a daily basis.
